As we celebrate #Juneteenth, we want to share a story from the long and ongoing struggle for justice in the U.S.
On March 16, 1960, Woolworth’s in San Antonio united with six other local establishments in peacefully desegregating their lunch counters. This movement sought to end racial segregation at public eating places across the South. Recent news of a commitment to preserving the Woolworth building, both through conservation of the building and through an exhibition that places the story within the larger context of America’s struggle for civil rights, means this story will continue to be told.
