https://t.cn/A6p7dlqn
https://t.cn/A6p7dlqE

JA: Isn't it also amazing what peopel aren't familiar with? I hear stories from teachers of film school students who show up and don't know what Citizen Kane is. You get that kind of thing?
EY: The problem with the school I was teaching in--the name of the school was the National Academy of Fine Arts. I was in the theater department. All the students were accepted not just by the written exam, but they needed to go through auditions and stuff. The audition process began...began to suck. And the teachers' mentality began to change. Less and less liberal to more and more conservative. More and more conventional. So one time one of the kids who was in my movie, Zhang Zhen, had acted in films already--he was in Crouching Tiger, the fellow who plays the bandit who falls in love with Zhang Ziyi--he wasn't accepted, simply because they didn't want him. He has to be qualified, he's an experienced actor. So how can you turn down a qualified person like that?
JA: They turned him down on the basis of what?
EY: They probably thought that they couldn't control him, or impress him enough. But basically it was getting very conservative, conventional, and conformist.
