皇家宫殿花园藏在法兰西歌剧院的后面，进入的通道也毫不起眼，但是进去之后便会眼前一亮。
这里我们来把漫长又复杂的皇家宫殿与花园的变更史做一个简单的概括：（图5-15）
皇家宫殿和花园是按照枢机主教黎塞留（Richelieu)的意愿所修建，名“红衣主教宫殿”（Palais-cardinal)，修建宫殿的是建筑师勒莫西耶（Lemercier)同样是索邦大学的设计者，花园的设计是由国王的园艺设计师德斯科（Desgots）所完成：两个喷泉，多个雕像，精心修剪的花坛，栽种整齐的树木等。
