For whom the bell tolls
————-By John Donne
No man is an Island,
intire of it selfe;
every man is a peece of the Continent,
a part of the maine;
if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse,
as well as if a Promontorie were,
as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thineowne were;
any mans deathdiminishes me,
because I am involved in Mankinde;
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

“What though the sea with waves continuall
Doe eate the earth, it is no more at all ;
Nor is the earth the lesse, or loseth ought:
For whatsoever from one place doth fall
Is with the tyde unto another brought:
For there is nothing lost, that may be found if sought.”
- Edmund Spenser, The Faerie Queene -
