Do not think that just knowing how to use the ḍāmaru and bell and chant the melodies indicates a qualified chöd practitioner. The encasement of hope and fear must be released from without and the cord of prideful self-fixation must be severed from within. May the state of the Great Mother [Prajñāpāramitā] the nature of unborn reality be realized in this lifetime!

凡事应三思之弗觉,体实而再行之,不可闻言而从,亦不可听之否虚,三思之下实施无道者,当进而穷根之研,欲觅高天彩虹而遇乌云之布,则疑于霞辉之弗成也,是为过失。

古人有“三思而行,再思可矣”之说,实际上,光“三思而行,再思可矣” 是不够的,在三思之后,还要具体去实践以观察真实效果,这也就是说,我们绝不可以听说一件事情就立刻不加思索地去办,而必须要加以认真思考和实践。但同时,又不能听到以后,马上就轻易地否定,认为虚妄不实,不去予以处理。如果在三思以后觉得没有道理,并且实际去做,也还没有行通,这时都不能马上丢掉,而要进一步去挖根究底。就正如我们想见到高空中的彩虹一样,如果说走到半虚空中被乌云所遮障,就认为是上面只有乌云,没有彩虹,这就是错误,如果继续努力向上,进入更高一层空间,突破乌云,彩虹就会出现。所以,做世间上的一切事情都是如此。在任何因难之下,都要进而穷根究底,这样,最后就不会犯过失,就会处理好一切事情,完成好一切事业。
